Motivational speaker Jim Rohn said: “You’re the average of the five people you spend the most time with“.
I just finished the most incredible conference and have just spent the last 3 days with truly inspirational people. I just calculated it, and my main purpose and goal has grown by exactly 5,000 times.
Think of that for a second. Take your last goal of how many people or businesses (or whatever) you want to achieve your purpose with. And pull out your calculator and times it by 5,000. Not bad right.
I sent an email to my entire company halfway through the conference, about where we are going and what we are going to achieve. I was so exhilarated by the email and goal and the purpose was so incredible, that my hands were shaking whilst writing the email.
I am now thinking totally different. What got me here, won’t get me there.
Will what got you to where you are now, get you to where you want to go? Maybe not.
So if your results in business or life aren’t going the way you want them to go. The first thing to know is that maybe something can be done about it.
The first thing I’d ask you is to look at who are the five people you spend the most time with. Could this be a good thing to change?
I want to be very clear on what to look at. The five people you spend the most time with.
Do the five people you spend the most time with have dreams, goals, purposes, knowledge, and achievements bigger than yours? Or are yours bigger than theirs?
You can even measure this by rating your group of five people. You can give it a score out of 5.
Every person in your group of five who has bigger goals, purposes etc, gets 1 point.
Every person in your group of five who has smaller goals, purposes, vision, achievement etc. Gets a 0.
Add it up and see what your score is out of five. You now know what you should do. And if you scored low and change some of those 5 people, nowhere does it say to necessarily totally cut people out of your life. Maybe some need cutting though if they are invalidating your goals and purposes, maybe they need an honest talking with. You can decide.
Another thing I learnt in this conference is that we are all super able, and sometimes you should stop looking for answers answers all the time, and sometimes look for questions. Because if you change the question, you’ll find all sorts of awesome answers.
I hope you’ve enjoyed the post. I thought it was so valuable and applicable and important to everyone that I couldn’t hold it in.
Anyway, now I just need to work out how to hang out with people who have bettered the life of millions and even billions of people – like Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerburg, Tony Hseih, Sundar Pichai and other awesome people I get inspired by.
