We’re Trialling A 4 Day Working Week!

We are thrilled to announce that this June we will be taking part in the 4 Day Working Week Trial being run by 4 Day Week Global. Along with a number of other companies in the UK, our staff are going to be working 80% of the time for 100% of their salary. In other words, they’ll be working four days a week (not five) with no pay cut.

Why?

Research has shown that a four-day week can boost productivity and happiness as well as improve recruitment and retention. From 2015-2019, Iceland ran two large-scale trials of a reduced working week and found productivity and service provision remained the same or improved across the majority of trial workplaces. They also found that worker wellbeing dramatically increased across a range of indicators, from perceived stress and burnout, to health and work-life balance. Since the trials, 86% of the country’s workforce are now working shorter hours or gaining the right to shorten their hours.

As a Sunday Times’ Best Company To Work For, we’re always looking for ways to improve our team’s wellbeing and work-life balance. So, we are going to be taking part in the latest trial happening here in the UK. It begins in June and will run for 6 months.

The team will be able to use their additional day off however they please. Whether it’s starting a new hobby, volunteering, visiting family, helping with childcare or simply relaxing, we believe that an additional day away from work will enable them to come to work feeling more refreshed and contribute to their work/life balance.

The pilot being run by 4 Day Week Global will include full training and mentorship as well as thorough research and analysis into the impact of the reduced working week. They will be supporting us throughout the program and rigorously measuring its impact on both our team’s output and their wellbeing.

But, most importantly, how will this impact our customer service? It won’t. We have increased the number of people in our customer-facing departments and the teams will be on rotas to ensure full coverage all of the time. With our staff feeling well rested and more productive, they’ll be able to better serve our customers.

Here at Yo, we’re really excited to take part in this trial and hopefully help transform the working week as we currently know it. If you have any questions at all about the trial, please don’t hesitate to send an email to info@yotelecom.co.uk.

Finally, if you’re looking for a new role and a 4 day working week sounds up your street, head to our careers page to see what roles we’re currently recruiting…
