Running a business – a team of people – may not always be easy, but when it goes right, it’s easy, fun and rewarding.

I’ve recently come back from a conference in Phoenix, Arizona specifically aimed at the small – medium size business. While there I had the chance to speak with hundreds of business owners very much like yourself. They all had great companies and gave me some amazing advice.

Having listened to guest speakers such as Jillian Michaels, Marcus Lemonis, and Infusionsoft CEO Clate Mask it’s clear that they all follow a similar set of steps to ensure their business is successful.

Here are some tips…

Have a purpose

For me, this is by far the most important of them all. If you and your business have no purpose then what are you working towards? If the answer is purely money then you’ll never be truly successful. Having a purpose gives your employees something to unite by and strive for. If everyone buys into the same purpose and believes it’s true they’ll be so much more passionate and successful.

Create a company purpose now and get it out to all your staff, customers, partners. Use this and get everyone on board with this and build a culture in your business around this purpose.

Keep it simple

This was repeated by every single entrepreneur and big business owner at the conference. It’s simple, stick to the basics of business. If you master the basics then the rest will follow. Getting the know-how required. Not running before you can walk springs to mind when looking at this step and it’s very true. Trying to over complicate things. and do things beyond your experience only leads to disaster. Do the basics right and the rest will follow.

Summary

It amazes me that such a simple thing as purpose is what has made all the greatest and most influential businesses in the world. And by meeting hundreds of the infusionsoft team, and seeing them all pushing one amazing purpose, I felt such excitement and genuine responsibility in them to get their jobs done – and done to a high level!

These are just two steps out of hundreds which I’ll be bringing to you over the next few months. My purpose in this campaign is to help educate the smaller business owner by giving them some free and well-tested advice to help their business prosper.
