5 Ways to Build Stronger Client Relationships

Lorna Bailey Blog

Building strong client relationships is essential if you want your business to become successful.

Your clients are the people who keep you in business so it’s important to keep them happy and to maintain a great relationship with them to retain them as clients.

Here’s our top tips on how to ensure that your relationships with your clients are super strong and long lasting.

1. Communication is Key

If you don’t communicate with your clients it will be virtually impossible to foster a great relationship with them.

It’s important to encourage two-way communication between you and your clients - they should know they can come to you if they need any help or advice with your products and services.

If a client calls in to speak with you, make time for them. If you’re not available at that time, simply taking the time to call them back will be greatly appreciated.

You don’t want them to feel like their queries are falling on deaf ears. If your clients (or potential clients) are struggling to get through to you this can lead to increased levels of dissatisfaction and they might start to seek out alternatives.

2. Show That You're Trustworthy

Consumer trust levels are at an all time low so it’s important to show your clients that you can be trusted.

Consumers are more likely to engage with companies that show themselves to be transparent and trustworthy.

If you are able to build a client relationship based on trust, it’s likely you will experience greater levels of customer loyalty. In fact, The Truth Report 2018 showed that 95% of people are more likely to be loyal to a company they trust and 93% were more likely to recommend a company they trust.

The majority of customers these days make their decisions based on emotions so if they feel that your business comes across as untrustworthy, it's likely that they will take their business elsewhere.

3. Be Yourself

Like with a friendship, you won’t win points by pretending to be something you’re not.

Your customers will appreciate the level of honesty you have with them and will appreciate having real conversations with real people, rather than just speaking to someone reading from a script.

By being yourself, you can get to know your customers on a more personal level.

4. Don’t be Scared to ask for Feedback

It’s hard for you to progress if you don’t know what you’re doing right and what you need to improve on.

By asking your clients for feedback you can find out exactly what it is that attracted them to your business (you can use this information to help you with marketing) and what you can do to improve the service you are providing.

However, it’s all well and good asking for feedback. What will really solidify a great relationship is showing that you have taken their ideas on board and actually implementing the feedback.

5. Get to Know your Customers

We’re not saying you should get to know every last detail about each and every one of your clients but getting to know little details will do wonders. If you know one of your clients is a parent, you can ask how their children are doing. If you know they’re into cycling, ask about their weekend ride.

It’s simple things like this that will make your clients feel valued and less like another number on your spreadsheet.

Summary:

The better you become at forming meaningful relationships with your clients, the easier it will be for you to grow your business.

By focusing on relationships you can improve trust and satisfaction levels, which will lead to happy and loyal clients.
